Ogbu saves Heartland in Confed Cup

Brendan Ogbu's late goal Sunday propelled Heartland to the next round of CAF Confederation Cup 2-1 aggregate ahead of US Haut of Cameroon. The first match in Douala a fortnight ago ended in a goalless draw. In the second round, the Nigerian cup winners will clash with AC Leopard from the Congo Republic with the first leg in Owerri on April 29. Striker Kabiru Umar opened the scoring in the 50th minute for the host team at the refurbished Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri with Governor Rochas Okorocha in attendance. However, the Cameroonians drew level in the 79th minute through Fossou Fardice even after one of their players, Henri Ngane, had been sent off for a second booking earlier in the game. But just when it seemed that Heartland had crashed out of the competition after several misses, substitute Ogbu, in for Julius Ubido, popped up with a stoppage time winner for ‘The Naze Millionaires’. Goal scorer Umar admitted it was a tough but that they deserved the victory. "We really played our hearts out. It was a tough game but in the end we won,” a relieved Umar told MTNFootball.com “They really stretched us but we were equal to the task. I am happy that I was part of the victory party." Heartland starting XI: Daniel Akpeyi – Kalu Orji, Joseph Jackson, Emmanuel Olowo, Chinedu Efugh, Julius Ubido, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Bello Kofarmata, Obinna Nwachukwu, Kabiru Umar, Ahmed Sulaiman
